Ahghairon's Tower

Ahghairon's Tower in Waterdeep is the home and eventually the final resting place of Ahghairon, the first Open Lord of Waterdeep.

This small tower rises as a slim stone pinnacle with few windows, and a conical roof four stories from the street. It is always quiet, never visibly changed by the passage of years nor disturbed by passersby. No one has been able to enter it since Ahghairon’s death. The cooperative efforts of all Ahghairon’s apprentices laid potent protective magics about it (above and below, as well as all about its walls).

Several times over the century since Ahghairon’s death, the magical barrier was dispelled or cancelled by enterprising mages, only to reform again trapping them.

On the north side of the building, a skeletal figure stands facing the tower with arms raised, about 10 feet away from its side. It is all that remains of a wizard who tried to get into the tower in order, no doubt, to seize Ahghairon’s magic for himself. He dispelled the outmost barrier, a forcecage, but was trapped between it and the prismatic sphere within when the forcecage reformed behind him.

The man’s name has been forgotten with the passage of years, and his robes and flesh have both rotted away, but the magic of the tower holds the bones in position.

It is a favorite game of local children to rearrange the wizard’s bones. They can be dislodged with a stick, but they always drift slowly back into the same position, floating upright, with arms outspread.
