Starry Cradles
The Starry Cradles is an orphanage in The Aeldinmuth Court neighborhood of the Dock Ward, in the shadow of Mount Waterdeep.
The orphanage is in an old manor building once owned by the shipping magnate Massalin Aeldinmuth, donated to the church of Selûne over a century ago.
The orphanage is run by Matron Griselda Hoppletun, a halfling care-taker, and funded by the House of the Moon. There is a small shrine to the moon goddess in the courtyard in the back of the orphanage.
Griselda tried to get the children employed around the docks. To avoid them running with the local gangs.
Most of the time between 30 and 50 children lives in the orphanage.
Aeldinmuth Court
At the foot of Mount Waterdeep, this neighborhood in the Dockmaw District lies between Lackpurse Lane and Crook Street. It is named for the old manor of Aeldinmuth, a prominent shipping magnate of the 12th century who once owned the land. The old lord’s manor is long gone, and haphazard tenement buildings and warehouses have grown up in the old estate grounds.
The Auld Court Referred to by locals as “The Auld Court” , the entire slum is impoverished, dirty, and dangerous. The tenements host a large number of street urchins, who can always be found playing in the streets, begging on street corners, and pickpocketing visitors to the neighborhood.
Street urchin gangs plague the Auld Court, notably the Redtails, and the Wyrmlings. Skirmishes are common between the Wyrmlings and the Basilisk Boys, who control the sewers beneath the neighborhood. The notorious Fire Kings gang deal in drugs, blackmail, and kidnappings here, and employ the Wyrmlings as lookouts and runners.
